CYCLE WORLD was established by George Diedrich, Jr. in 1967 in Thibodaux, LA as a Suzuki motorcycle dealer. The original name of the company was "Suzuki Cycle World". In the early years we carried Bolens Lawn Mowers and Hodaka motorcycles, in addition to a full line of Suzuki motorcycles. The initial location was on St. Mary St. in an old re-modeled grocery store. Less than two years after opening, things began to change rapidly, as we were approached by Honda to become their local dealer. This was a very good thing for our small dealership.
We moved our operation to a 5000 sq. ft. building on Canal Boulevard, next door to Quality Boiler and Machine Works another company owned by Mr. Diedrich. As the market began to grow, we applied for a Honda dealership in Houma, LA, which allowed us to move to Houma with an additional store to service a growing market. The 'boom' of the '70's encouraged us to open a satellite store on the East side of Houma to sell parts and accessories and well as do some minimal service work.
The so-called 'boom' lasted till about 1984 in this South Louisiana area. As businesses of all types began to slow down, especially the oil industry, prominent in the Houma area, we were forced to make some decisions about the state of our then growing dealership. We closed the Thibodaux store as well as the Houma satellite store and concentrated all activities at our current West Park location, which is where we operate from today.
However, it is quite improved over 1984! The 5000 sq. ft. facility built in 1972 has become a more modern 20,000 sq. ft. building with a large area for warehousing and a new area for our service department with room for eight lifts. A commitment was made to re-invest profits into the facility itself. Little by little, we expanded and re-modeled. That commitment remains part of management's philosophy.
In 1990, with only a handful of employees and the Honda line to work with, the outlook was somewhat bleak. As luck would have it, the economy began to improve, new management was brought in, and things started to change in our favor. In 1991, we signed up with Kawasaki to represent their line of motorcycles, ATV's, Jet Skis and utility vehicles called Mules. In 1996 we bought out the local Yamaha dealer after the death of the owner. In a move to get a strong off-road brand to serve a huge market, we began representing KTM. All three of these moves proved to be positive for our dealership.
A LOOK INSIDE EACH DEPARTMENT
CYCLE WORLD is a retail dealership representing Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha. In the SALES DEPARTMENT, we handle Cruisers, Street bikes, motocross bikes, ATV's, Utility vehicles and Scooters as well as Yamaha generators. We sell new and used units in all categories. We generally have about 100 units displayed on the showroom floor with at least double that in our warehouse. We pride ourselves in finding the right unit for each customer.
Our BUSINESS OFFICE, which is one of the tops in the nation in many categories, handles the financial end of the sale. In 2004 and 2005, we were presented with the Council of Excellence Award by Honda Finance for outstanding performance. We provide sources for financing the purchase as well as several products, which can enhance your ownership experience. Some of the products include: financing, A&H, Gap, Pre-Paid Maintenance, Theft protection, and Extended Warranty coverage.
Our SERVICE DEPARTMENT consists of well-trained technicians with over 50 years of combined experience. We have a great new set up with all of the right tools and machines for the right job, which provides for efficiency of operation. For your convenience, on our web site, you can fill out a 'Service' form describing the service or repair work your bike needs and email it to us. This will save time for both of us, as well as help get your unit in and out quicker than ever.
Our PARTS DEPARTMENT is now PARTS AND ACCESSORIES more than ever before. We have the largest selection of parts and accessories in the tri-parish area for your Japanese motorcycle needs. We carry it all, all the brands that you are familiar with and more, and if we don't have it, we know how and where to find it for you.
MOTOCROSS over the years we have sponsored riders in a variety of ways. Discounts on parts, accessories, bikes and service work, as well as free 'stuff' they need to be successful at the races. We have donated directly to the tracks all over South Louisiana in the form of trophies, ambulance fees, door prizes, pit bikes, and more. Look for more detailed information about our riders on the Cycle World Racers page on our web site.
